Global Road Safety Report to be Launched in December

The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to launch the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland on 13th December.
This will be the fourth report by the WHO providing the global status on road safety, including a detailed scale of global road traffic deaths, and progress in laws, strategies, and policies to reduce them around the world.
According to the organization, the 2023 report provides the first complete overview of progress made during the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020 and sets a baseline for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.
The launch event will be live-streamed on the WHO official website with several speakers expected including Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organization, Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg L.P and Bloomberg Philanthropies and WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries, Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Khuất Việt Hùng, Vice Minister, Chairman of the National Road Safety Committee, Viet Nam, Ambassadors, mayors, and policy-makers from all regions, as well as Leaders from civil society organizations.
The report will be launched with a mobile data application and data profiles for 194 countries.
Africa had the highest fatality rate, estimated at 26.6 for every 100,000 people, according to the WHO’s latest Global Status Report on Road Safety in 2018.
The continent contributed 20 percent to the overall road death rate while having only 2.3 percent of the world’s vehicles.
