Road Safety Reporting Training for African journalists
Call for Applications for Journalists from Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Africa has the highest road traffic fatality rate in the world. Over 800 people are killed in road crashes every day, more than half of them vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. It’s a public health crisis that is entirely preventable. It’s also a huge story that must be told.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Science Africa will host a three-day training workshop for journalists in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16-18 July 2024. The workshop will also include the official launch of the WHO Africa Regional Report on Road Safety. The aim is to equip journalists to report on key road safety issues and help them to train others.
Applications are open to journalists and media trainers from Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania. After the training, participants may apply for grants to support reporting or training on road safety with mentoring provided by the Science Africa team.
Background
The Road Safety Reporting Initiative aims to help journalists tell more and better stories that help reduce deaths from road crashes. As part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, it offers training, mentoring, tools and resources to help journalists dig deeper into the issue.
To be considered for the workshop, please complete the online application form below.
