Kenya: Rainfall Not Expected Over Most Parts

Most parts of Kenya are likely to be generally dry during the next one week with rainfall expected to continue over a few areas of Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Coast, according to Kenya meteorological department (KMD).

During the period, average daytime temperatures are likely not to vary between 20°C and 30°C over most parts while average night-time temperatures is predicted to be 20°C except over some parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

According to KMD, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot counties are expected to receive occasional rains in the mornings and night showers over some palaces.

Turkana and Samburu counties are likely to be sunny throughout the day and partly cloudy at night. Temperatures in the counties are likely to go as high as 38°C during the day and as low as 13°C during the night especially in Maralal.

In Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi counties, mornings are likely to be cloudy, with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected over few places.

Temperatures will rise to about 29°C in Thika and Nyahururu will have chilly nights with temperatures expected to drop to about 06°C.

Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties are likely to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy during the nights. However, occasional morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers may occur over few places.

Mandera will experience high temperatures of up to 37°C during the day and low temperatures of up to 16°C during the nights in Marsabit.

Days are likely to be sunny and nights partly cloudy in the counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta. However, occasional afternoon and night showers may occur over few places.

Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties are likely to experience morning, early afternoon and night showers over few places occasionally spreading to several places. Comparing the 15 to 21 May 2023 and the 22 to 28 May 2023 periods, KMD noted an increase in rainfall amounts over some parts of the Coast and the South-eastern lowlands and a decrease over the North Rift Valley, temperatures decreased throughout the country with only a few stations like Suba, Kitale and Kisumu recording slight increases.
