Sunny, Dry Weather Expected in Most Parts of Kenya

By  Joyce Ojanji

Most parts of Kenya are likely to be sunny and dry with some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Coast and North-eastern expecting rainfall, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) says.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley are likely to experience sunny mornings with afternoon showers and thunderstorms over few places.

According to KMD, the nights are likely to be partly cloudy though showers may occur over few places while days are expected to be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional morning rains and night showers may occur over few places during the second half of the forecast period in the North-western Kenya.

The first half of the forecast period is likely to be generally sunny and dry in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, in the second half of the forecast period, intermittent cloudiness, at times accompanied by light rains, is expected in the morning giving way to sunny intervals while afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places.

Moreover, North eastern Kenya is likely to experience morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers over few places whereas days are expected to be sunny and nights partly cloudy in the South-eastern lowlands.

At the Coast, days are expected to be sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional morning showers may occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period.

Comparing the previous review (10-16 October 2022) to the current review period (17-23 October 2022), it is noted that day-time (maximum) temperatures increased over some stations including Msabaha, Kisumu and Garissa and decreased over others like Moyale, Nakuru and Kisii. Night-time (minimum) temperatures increased over most parts of the country.
